DURAS / Côtes de DURAS

Wines with many facets

Renowned figures such as Pope Clement V. and the Kings of England who reigned over the region for 300 years, have forged the reputation of Duras wines. The landscape alternates between valleys, vineyards, woodlands and plum tree orchards. Côtes de Duras wines come in 4 colours (dry white, sweet, rosé and red) and a wide variety: fruity or more intense reds, very dry or sweet whites. Wines with character and easy to pair.

A wine with many facets
Duras winegrowers’ love for the vines and wine has withstood the test of time. Ancestors and forefathers championed their lifestyle in the middle of the Hundred Years’ War which proud winegrowers have inherited and celebrate today. They are driven by persistence and passion, working on a pocket-sized terroir.

History

The Côtes de Duras appellation was awarded AOC status (Designation of Controlled Origin) in 1937.

Terroir

The Duras vineyard lies to the far west of the Bergerac and Duras vineyard, a hundred kilometres from the Atlantic Ocean. The ocean influence ensures a mild climate with a few rainy spells come autumn.

The Duras vineyard is a mosaic of unique geology and landscapes formed by the ocean’s invasion and retreat.
